Study Abroad

What: Study abroad program

Where: my host family’s house in Cuenca, Ecuador; with excursions to the Galapagos Islands, Guayaquil and Quito cities, the Amazon River, ancient ruins of the Inca Civilization, current villages of indigenous peoples, and more

When: Feb. 2, 2020 through April 17, 2020 (about 11 weeks)

Who: myself, my professor, and eight other students from my school

How: A professor of Spanish at my university plans every single detail and I just pack my bags, pay the school like usual, and try not to get too homesick

Why: For the same price of room and board that I pay Mount St. Mary’s University, a beautiful but small school in the middle of nowhere Maryland, I could be in a foreign country, living with a host family, immersed in the Spanish language, traveling to once-in-a-lifetime places. When I learned all this, my only question was “Why not?” I always knew I would study abroad in college so when offered a chance to return to Latin America, little could stop me.
